The project is providing capacity development to forty (40) farmer groups from the districts of Tororo, Busia and Manafwa who are trained in the ERI approach and empowered to work on their food security, sustainable natural resource management and through collective planning and marketing on improved livelihoods of their families. During the trainings farmers are guided to analyse their current situation and appreciate the desire for change that leads to development of group action plans. While it takes time for the communities to appreciate the approach we see the change of attitudes and behaviours as a key component of the project. Caritas staff is encouraging the farmers to plant drought resistant crop varieties and include other forms of value addition business as an income generating enterprise.
